Graceland

We move,
like a school of Jonah-fish,
through the belly of Graceland.
Slow, flickering in our smallness,
we feed off the girth of our host.

Elvis' records gleam faintly in the Hall of Gold.
Like the precious-plated ribs of a whale,
they document his size.

The tour guide is proud:
more Americans watched Aloha From Elvis
than Neil Armstrong as he walked on the moon.

Elvis joins us in the Jungle Room,
slips unseen in line,
to snap photographs of his fame.

Stumbling at the alter of himself,
and longing for a glass of water.

Spidey/ Gift

Spotlights/Spilled Eye Shadow

I intended to launch All's Fair on New Year's Day, but 2010 snuck up on me. Then I decided to start the blog on my birthday, January 31st, since birthdays remind me of the ever-ticking clock - one of my chief adversaries, but time won that battle, too. So here I am on a nondescript Thursday in March putting forth two pictures that represent what I intend to do, examine my own life and my relationship to  the larger world through images.
